Metro Church of God in Birmingham, Ala., will host the Love Won Out Conference on Nov. 7.
It’s the last Love Won Out event for Focus on the Family, which will turn the conference over to Exodus International in December.
Gay activists are planning to protest. Wayne Besen, founder of Truth Wins Out, claimed the sessions teach parents to “hate” their children.
“Love Won Out tells young people and their families that they aren’t whole and that they should and can change – which isn’t true,” he said.
But Joe Dallas, pastoral counselor, founder of Genesis Counseling in Orange County, Calif., and a regular speaker at Love Won Out, said no attendee has ever been taught to hate or coerce their child.
“Just the opposite,” he said. “We teach parents how important it is to love and care for their sons or daughters, no matter what choices they make.”

I (Randy) won’t personally be at this particular event but having been to about 20 of them, every single one had some sort of protest and every single time the LWO team responds lovingly. Would you add praying for Wayne and his friends to your prayers for the conference? We’d greatly appreciate it.

I have Wayne’s name written in my prayer journal, along with some other difficult-to-love (though commanded by God to, nonetheless) folks I intersect with from time to time. Will keep the LWO conference high among my prayers.
That’s good Debbie. I don’t find it hard to “love” gay activists. My heart goes out to them so … I guess that is why. Although, just like I am hard to love for some people, there are people I struggle to “love” as Jesus commands.
We humans … so difficult sometimes
Thanks for praying for Love Won Out and all that is happening there.
I was at the protest. The people outside were very loving towards one another even though many of them had different perspectives on the ex-gay movement and the correct way to express their pain and hurt towards the “love the sinner hate the sin” or the “we love you, but” message. If you could just experience the pain and rejection, Debbie…just maybe the feeling you get when you come across Wayne in your prayer journal would change.
