I have carefully read the entire document, and I think it is well-articulated, and as you say, most gracious in its tone. What may it lead to, you wonder out loud? None of us can say, but it all needed to be said in a clear, Christian way.

You would think we'd need only to point others to Scripture, but fewer folks today who even profess to faith in Christ are intimately familiar with what the Bible says, sadly. One declaration, even one as well-put-together as this one, won't work the miracle that is already implicit in the words of our triune God, the prophets and the apostles. That's where we find the truth that sets us free and heals both individuals and nations.

Although my political beliefs are somewhat liberal, I actually think there is quite a bit of grace in the highlighted paragraph about those who struggle, and the sins of the church in general when it comes to sexual issues and helping those with sexual issues. Then again, my sentiments have always been a little more Roman Catholic, and this declaration certainly reads Catholic, if that makes sense.

At the risk of seeming to "nuance" something ... I think they weren't linking homosexuality to polygamy in a stigmatizing way. But on a public policy level, polygamists can use the exact same arguments to affirm their relationships as gay couples do for theirs.

It's a bit too policy wonky to me but I think they make a valid point.

It would have been nice to see the part about homosexuality and gay marriage discussed without being linked to polygamy. I'm not sure why they decided to link them so heavily.

It is nice, to see them address the other issues that are harming marriage. Like you said, though, I wonder what actions will follow.
