Year End Top Ten Posts for 2009

I started working for Exodus in 2002.  We started a couple of different blogs since then but never really found our stride.  We decided to give it a go again on August 6 of this year and ... well... we have definitely hit our stride.  We have gotten nothing but positive feedback and encouragement. Other blogs that I follow will do various top ten lists based on their stats for the year.  While we have only been around for 4 months I thought it would be interesting to do some some stat driven interesting tidbits to highlight various posts from this year. … [Read more...]

After Thoughts, Before Christmas

thepassion

Well, this caused a stir. :) Here are a few after-thoughts on the whole situation. First, let me say that I truly respect Mat Staver and the Liberty Counsel. I have had many good conversations with Mr. Staver as well as those that work with him over the years. Staver has always shown respect and kindness to Exodus and it bothers me that his organization has been indirectly affected by this. Second, it is also true that I have had great discussions with both Peter LaBarbera and Matt Barber as well. I have challenged and been challenged by them. That said, I obviously won't tolerate … [Read more...]

The Jesus Who Saves by Mike Goeke

I’m on a personal mission to wipe away the image that I call “children’s Bible Jesus.” I call it that because my first memory of this image graced the pages of my illustrated children’s Bible, but it is a familiar image culturally and worldwide. Children’s Bible Jesus is that image of Jesus showing a handsome and very white man with straight, sparkling teeth, flowing, product-enhanced hair and piercing blue eyes. His robes are bright white and his arms are usually up in the air or cradling a precious little lamb. Sometimes he has a halo, but almost always has a ‘glow’ about … [Read more...]

Liberty Counsel Responds to Crass Quote Attributed to Matt Barber

[Liberty-Counsel-Crest-Color

WARNING: Graphic Description in Quote Below Yesterday I posted, "CPAC, Conservatism and the Compassion of Christ" in response to a very disturbing quote Peter LaBarbera attributed to Matt Barber.  LaBarbera, in the context of a much larger post, writes: What is conservatism? It boils down to this: there is nothing “conservative” about — as Barber inimitably puts it — “one man violently cramming his penis into another man’s lower intestine and calling it ‘love.’” Or two women awkwardly mimicking natural procreative relations or raising a child together in an … [Read more...]

CPAC, Conservatism & the Compassion of Christ

GOProud.org

CPAC, Conservatism & the Compassion of Christ WARNING: Graphic description I looks like CPAC's annual event is in for some controversy this year. Some Christian conservative organizations have decided to pull out of the Conservative Political Action Conference's event due to gay conservative group GOProud's presence as a co-sponsor.  Every organization must carefully examine how their participation in any event communicates their beliefs and values and must remain true to their organization's conscious. I don't have a problem with that. What does bother me, however, is when I see … [Read more...]

2009: A Year of Answered Prayer by Kristin Tremba

Christmas (18)

Have you ever prayed for years for something and been almost on the verge of losing all hope, and then, wham! It happens! It has been that kind of year for me, and I thank God for his grace and generosity. I struggled so many years desiring marriage as well as desiring to fulfill the calling God had placed on my life in the area of ministry. I know many of you have this same desire and calling, and so I share the following with you to give you hope. In October of 2007, I met a man named Mike at a local prayer meeting that I helped to organize with some friends from my church and community. … [Read more...]

When Angry Activists Attack – Perspective Diffuses Persecution

group

My friend Frank sent me a couple of messages that I have combined and edited below (quoted with permission): Randy, how do you wake up every morning, and go to work knowing that as much as you fight for truth, you are hated beyond understanding? that every word you speak will be twisted and you will be made a laughing stock? This Rachel Maddow thing (among others) has me down... truth is not acceptable anymore. no one cares. ... I feel like I've talked and talked till im blue in the face yet no one listens... how do you do it? You have fought longer and harder than I and have been … [Read more...]

Of Muslims, Male Brothels and a Post-gay Change of Heart

brothel survey

Around twenty years ago I was a proud gay man sitting in Denny's with a few friends.  One of whom, a female, was dating a young Muslim man we will call Roy.  Roy is a native of Kuwait but last I heard he has been in the states since I met him. When I first met him he was just learning English and not real hip to the whole gay thing.  He wasn't mean and was actually very kind but you knew that it was a subject he didn't really want to know all the details about.  He and the young lady I was friends with eventually married and they were still married after I became a Christian and had a … [Read more...]

Called Out – Janet Boynes Ministries

Janet Boynes

I enjoy Janet a lot. She is a lot of fun to be around and is thoroughly in love the with the Lord. Here is the conclusion of her testimony as posted on her website: For fourteen years I lived the lesbian lifestyle, moving from one relationship to the next. My old habits came back as well and I struggled in and out of treatment, even getting in to trouble with the law. Throughout all of those years, I always knew that I would one day return to God, that He was calling me, but I wasn’t ready to come back. Finally I met a woman at a grocery store who invited me to church. I went a few … [Read more...]
