The Wounded Unseen – My Response to Gayle Haggard’s New Book (Alan Chambers)

By Alan Chambers

Charisma Magazine has published my article The Wounded Unseen.  I conclude the article with:

I am convinced that we as a church must do all we can to speak to these issues – to not only reach out to the husband or wife who struggles with their sexuality, but to also put an arm around a heartbroken spouse and walk with a family in need. If we do not, the culture will speak where we are silent.  As Gayle Haggard says, the ultimate question for her became, “Will I be the woman who washes her hands of the situation and walks away from Ted or will I be the woman who loves him and shows forgiveness? The choice was mine.” I believe a vital question for the church today is, “Will we be the church that gives in to fear and ignores those who need help, or will we be the church that demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ so that the truth will set captives free?” The choice is ours.

Please read the article and let me know your thoughts.

“Haggard” certainly must have described Gayle during the many months of wrestling with her feelings before God and her husband. While I relate more to Ted’s struggle — as well as to his humility and joy at seeing his wife stand by him — it is my husband who could empathize with Gayle. No brokenness is beyond God’s healing reach. No joy surpasses the joy of restoration. Hallelujah! I pray this book and the Haggards’ story touches many lives.

Thank you for this post sir as a single Christian man I have at times found the pull towards the same sex but have never acted on it. While I have fallen on many accounts my Godly father and mother have never given up on me and pray that God would continue to guide and nurture their son to live a full and manly life for Him. Mrs. Haggard is a testament to the covenantel grace and mercy of God in the lives of sanctified sinners such as I am. Thank you and God bless you. And God bless EI.
