Conference to Address Ways to Reach Those Struggling with Homosexuality

Orlando, FL- Exodus International, the largest international ministry addressing faith and same-sex attraction, will discuss how the church can more effectively reach a group of people that often go ignored or unnoticed when it brings the Love Won Out conference to Skyline Wesleyan Church in San Diego on March 6. Pastor Jim Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline Church, says this event is needed in California and will help many Christians to knowledgably reach those touched by the issue of homosexuality.

The Love Won Out conference, originally launched by Focus on the Family in 1998, is dedicated to helping the Christian church address biblical sexuality, particularly same-sex attraction, with truth and grace. Many who attend the conference are family members and friends committed to demonstrating Christ-like compassion to a gay-identified loved one, men women and youth who personally struggle with unwanted homosexual feelings and pastors and church staff wanting to learn more about this subject.

Noted speakers at the event include former homosexual and Exodus International President Alan Chambers, California-based author and counselor Joe Dallas, Exodus’ Senior Director of Church Equipping Jeff Buchanan and Dr. Nancy Heche who will share her story as the mother of a Hollywood celebrity and wife to a pastor living as a gay man with AIDS.

Pastor Garlow says more Christians need to know how to reach out to friends and loved ones dealing with tough topics related to sexuality. “While we, as Christians, must take a stand for biblical truth in our culture, we cannot ignore those at the heart of such issues who desperately need the love of Christ. We hope this conference will help many to extend compassion to those who may have felt isolated and rejected by the church in the past.”

Exodus International President Alan Chambers added, “Our goal is to help the global Christian church to be the healing community God intended it to be. We hope Love Won Out will help advance a new era for the church that is defined by God’s truth as well as His heart for hurting people.”
