Christian Conference on Faith & Sexuality Welcomes Protestors, Responds to Counter Conference
SAN DIEGO, CA- As the largest worldwide ministry addressing faith and sexuality prepares to host the Love Won Out conference this Saturday at Skyline Church in San Diego, opponents have organized a protest and a conference of their own. Love Won Out is a one-day event, hosted by Exodus International that is geared towards equipping the Christian church to compassionately respond to the issue of homosexuality.
Alan Chambers, former homosexual and President of Exodus International, says he welcomes those with contrasting opinions. “While our views on these issues may differ, we’ve found that there are often hurting people on the other side of the picket line in need of God’s unconditional love. I would not be who I am today were it not for the many who demonstrated Christ-like compassion to me. Love Won Out is committed to helping churches across the country model this approach.”
Focus on the Family first launched Love Won Out in 1998 to educate and equip Christians to respond compassionately to the subject of homosexuality in a biblical way. Since then, the conference has traveled to more than 60 cities worldwide. In August, Exodus International, a longtime ally in the effort to educate the church about biblical sexuality, assumed leadership of the conference.
Love Won Out speakers will include Exodus staff members as well as noted author and counselor Joe Dallas and Dr. Nancy Heche, mother of Anne Heche, who will discuss her own journey as a wife married to a man who died of AIDS.
