Randy Thomas on Pure Passion TV

This interview with Pure Passion was taped five years ago. It was taped before the show went to HD and they just upgraded it to HD. I enjoyed the interview and am glad they have made it available.

A *lot* of ground was covered but there are a couple of things I want to clarify. I don’t believe reparative therapy model is the only answer for people who develop homosexuality and I have never been to literal “reparative therapy.” However, my life circumstances fall completely in line with that theory and have been positively influenced by resources written by Dr. Nicolosi. So while that theory of environmental causation isn’t true for everyone, it is definitely true for me.

Also, toward the end when I say that “I would never be gay again,” I meant that in the sense that I did reject that identity and my life goals were completely changed after that prayer time. I didn’t and haven’t become super-human immune to temptation. I just know why and what to do about it if and when temptations come along.

And, to update on my relationship with my parents, I have a *much* more transparent relationship with my Mom and Step-father. A lot of healing has occurred. The Lord has been very gracious to continue to bring reconciliation in our family.

God is good :)

You something Mr. Thomas? I was so touched by your testimony that I shed some tears. I rarely cry, but the Holy Spirit touched my heart by your testimony. I have something to share with you. I once asked the Lord, “How much do you love me?” and he said, “Every time I see you!” which of course, is always. That message was for me, but it is also for you, and for everyone else who seeks to live for Christ.

G-d Bless You Mr. Thomas! The Lord G-d Loves You Very Much! Praise G-d That He Is Taking Your Life In His Gentle, But Yet Strong Grasp And Blessing You With Gifts Of Joy And Wisdom!

Randy, there is a lot here. I only just recently actually heard about Pure Passion. It’s an excellent resource for sure. BTW, I don’t know why you have issues with the blond highlights in your hair but then again fashion isn’t something I’m naturally good at as I am still dependent upon some friends taking me shopping to get the right clothing and have two left hands when it comes to working with my hair.

I have to really think about what you shared on Pure Passion, there really is so much there that it’s worth watching over again. I really appreciated the last statement made when you spoke of how God enabled you to see the scripture regarding abomination different and the explanation of what it means for Jesus to be Lord, or should I say when God revealed to you more of what it means for Him to be Lord. I think many Christians are so used to viewing Lord as a person who makes up a bunch of do’s and don’ts instead of seeing the sovereignty of God in His Lordship over our lives. ie, when referring to Ron and said that God knew Ron would die of HIV aids and He knew that you would come to faith in Him at age 24 and how He redeems our past and all for His glory …

Anyways … I think … I hope … that this year will be the year to attend the Freedom Conference. If all the practical things are able to get done. I have the time off from work to attend, I have to get my passport application sent in and then there is the actual registration for the conference and I hope too that there is still room. :)

I hope you can make it too. It would be great to meet you in person. Jesus is definitely Lord, a loving Lord.

My current roommate is a Living Waters Intern and she’s told me that there’s a possibility there might be a couple of people from LW in my area attending the conference. I’ve been planning this trip on my own but it would be nice if I can attend this conference with people I already know. A number of years ago, 6 years ago I believe. I attended a smaller Exodus Conference in Toronto. It was 2004 and I had been in the gay community at that point for 2 years and not entirely convinced that embracing SSA was for me. I was on the fence and not convinced 100 % in any one direction, just confused …. I made the famous trek across Canada from Van to Toronto on the bus non-stop. My experience traveling across China was a far better experience but that’s besides the point … never gonna take the bus across Canada ever again … 3 nights and 4 days and by the time I arrived in Toronto my feet and ankles were swollen. I temporarily thought of taking the bus to this conference as Irvine California is by far closer .. to Redding California is aprox. an 11 hour drive from where I live and I don’t think Irvine can’t be that much farther away … it could even be closer for all I know.

Crazy story … because I didn’t know who was who … I mean, I heard names, read stories but never had a face to go with the testimony and so while I had read Sy Rogers testimony when I was 19 I never knew what he looked like. Anyways … just before the conference actually started everyone was in the cafeteria. I ended up siting at this one table and half way through dinner just after registration had been completed it dawned on me … this table was filled with all the Exodus leaders attending the conference and also including their families !! Siting next to me was Sy Rogers himself, in person … anyways … that dinner and week at that conference was a real pivotal moment for me and to hear the challenges and experiences of being involved in this kind of ministry, public ministry too, the whole experience has enabled me to broaden my perspective.

I didn’t sit at the table because they were the Guest Speakers, in fact, I was actually trying to figure out a way I could leave the table after the fact … I was either going to allow for the state of my anxiety to cause me to leave the table or make the choice to push through, continue eating my dinner and enjoy the conversation and well I’m glad I pushed through to enjoy the conversation. I ended up laughing hysterically with a couple of stories told ( I don’t think it’s possible not to laugh when Sy Rogers tells stories ) and at the end of it came to appreciate the ministry that Exodus has been involved with.

Anyways … hopefully all goes well … looking forward to being there. I’ve been wanting to attend this larger conference now for the last 6 years and never had the opportunity until now. So … if I introduce myself as the long winded, very annoying Vancouverite ( not to be confused with Washington States Vancouver ) you’ll know who I am ?? :)

Hi Randy, this is unrelated to your PurePassion post (I discovered that site about a year ago and have devoured everything on it–will there be new videos?), but I was wondering what your thoughts were on Jennifer Knapp’s “coming out” in her Christianity Today interview?

Hey Randy, that was a very powerful testimony. There were a lot of instances in which I cried due to revelations from God through your words. I am somewhat confused though about what you have said regarding Leviticus 18:22 about the gender-nonspecific pronoun “it”. I am confused about what is “it” that the verse referred to as an abomination.
