The following was submitted to USA Today as a Letter to the Editor last week in response to Kirsten Powers article "Hypocrisy shrouds the gay marriage debate."  The letter has not been published in their paper as of yet. --- Inaccuracy Shrouds Kirsten Power’s Article As the Director of “Day of Truth 2010”, I am disappointed with the inaccurate perspective of Kirsten Power’s article. Voicing disapproval of homosexuality was not the focus of this event but rather exercising the right to present an alternative message and educating individuals about their choices. PBS Interview on Churches and Gay Youth

Perdue

In a recent PBS Religion & Ethics segment on "Churches & Gay Youth," Pastor Bob Perdue of Old Dominion Baptist Church, an Exodus Church Association church in Bristow, VA, was interviewed by PBS correspondent Lucky Severson.  While the segment is generally unbalanced and one-sided in its perspective, Bob responds with a gracious and truthful point of view.  In preparing to post this article, I asked Bob to share a little of his personal story: I grew up in church and I grew up struggling with same sex attraction.  While the problem was not spoken about specifically, the concept of … [Read more...]

Advocate Interview Models Day of Truth Vision

While we definitely disagree on many levels, it was a great example of two people having an honest conversation, while showing mutual respect and tolerance. There is one point that I feel needs to be clarified. I’m sure this is not due to any intentional misleading on behalf of Mr. … [Read more...]

With so many arguments and opinions, how are we to make sense of it all and how are we to respond in biblical grace and truth to the many that have been affected by homosexuality? Bob on Broadway

bob_stith

This summer has been a significant one for controversy and debate regarding the issue of homosexuality within several mainline denominations.  The Southern Baptist Denomination is no exception.  In June, the Executive Committee recommended that the denomination cease relationship with Broadway Baptist Church in Forth Worth, Texas for “affirming, approving or endorsing homosexual behavior.”  The church has five open homosexual members, including two male couples, with some serving on church committees.   Bob Stith, a former pastor and the National Strategist for Gender Issues at the … [Read more...]
