Exodus International Responds to Ugandan Social Worker Association

From the Exodus Press Office: Exodus International Responds to Ugandan Social Worker Association's Endorsement of Country's Anti-Homosexuality Bill ORLANDO, FL - Last week, the National Association of Social Workers of Uganda (NASWU) issued an endorsement of the African nation's controversial anti-homosexuality bill, arguing "there is justification for Uganda to put in place appropriate legislation to comprehensively prohibit homosexuality." The organization did recommend changes to the legislation, such as an exemption for counselors helping those struggling with same-sex attraction … [Read more...]

Transforming a Worldview – Testimony of Karen Booth

Karen Booth

Testimony originally posted on the Exodus website: ***Begin*** Transforming A Worldview By Rev. Karen Booth, Executive Director of Transforming Congregations* Since many folk involved in Exodus-related ministries have struggled with same-sex attraction, I have been asked many times if that is true of me. It isn’t. My desires and behaviors since my adolescent years have been consistently heterosexual. In the past, however, those desires and behaviors haven’t been pure; I’ve hurt myself and I’ve wounded others through sexual sin, and I praise God that He has forgiven and … [Read more...]

PBS Interview on Churches and Gay Youth

Perdue

In a recent PBS Religion & Ethics segment on "Churches & Gay Youth," Pastor Bob Perdue of Old Dominion Baptist Church, an Exodus Church Association church in Bristow, VA, was interviewed by PBS correspondent Lucky Severson.  While the segment is generally unbalanced and one-sided in its perspective, Bob responds with a gracious and truthful point of view.  In preparing to post this article, I asked Bob to share a little of his personal story: I grew up in church and I grew up struggling with same sex attraction.  While the problem was not spoken about specifically, the concept of … [Read more...]

What’s Your Abomination?

You might be a pharisee if you are puzzled by this question or immediately dismiss is it because you think you aren't guilty of committing at least one. Let me help you out by assuring you that you have indeed committed an abomination if you have ever taken a breath. No one's exempt. Anyone yelling at me through the computer screen yet? You can get as red-faced as you want, but be careful because you might commit an abomination in the process. If I had even a penny for every time someone has objected to my "sin is sin" comment I wouldn't need to take a salary at Exodus. It seems that … [Read more...]

LaBarbera v. Throckmorton: Is Affirming “Gay” People Biblical?

Warren-1

I have been watching Peter Labarbera declare a blog battle with Warren Throckmorton. He calls on his readers to complain about Warren to his employer Grove City College for not practicing what Peter considers a biblical view of how to counsel people who have same sex attractions. It's gotten really heated on Peter's side of the issue (calling in reinforcements and everything) but I am sure both bloggers don't mind the web traffic. What blogger would mind web traffic? I asked Warren a couple of questions about Peter's posts and here is the dialog (printed with permission): How much of … [Read more...]

Media Round-Up from Love Won Out San Diego

Terri Brown and Volunteer Staff the Information Booth

Love Won Out, San Diego, California- Exodus International hosted its first Love Won Out conference since assuming leadership of the event from Focus on the Family. Several media outlets covered the conference and while we were protested at this event, consider this story from a young man who protested a Love Won Out conference in San Diego a few years ago: "At a conference in Pasadena, a volunteer approached one of our staff and shared how Love Won Out changed his life. Several years prior, at a LWO conference in San Diego, this young man was participating in the protest outside the … [Read more...]

Prayer Request for Love Won Out San Diego

Conference organizers amaze me.  All the details, logistics, care, hard work, preparation, crunch time, running the event itself... astounding.  How blessed are we that God has created wonderful souls who can do this type of ministry?  My respect for David Fountain, Leslie Chambers and Karen Eaglin is already deep but to watch them in action is a beautiful thing. This Saturday is our Love Won Out (LWO) event in San Diego so it is crunch time in "pulling it all together."  During our daily morning prayer time we spent extra time lifting up every aspect of Love Won Out to the Lord.  We … [Read more...]
