Charisma Magazine has published my article The Wounded Unseen. I conclude the article with: I am convinced that we as a church must do all we can to speak to these issues - to not only reach out to the husband or wife who struggles with their sexuality, but to also put an arm around a heartbroken spouse and walk with a family in need. If we do not, the culture will speak where we are silent. As Gayle Haggard says, the ultimate question for her became, "Will I be the woman who washes her hands of the situation and walks away from Ted or will I be the woman who loves him and shows … [Read more...]
New York Times Picks Up Uganda Story
The New York Times quotes Exodus Board Member Don Schmierer: The three Americans who spoke at the conference — Scott Lively, a missionary who has written several books against homosexuality, including “7 Steps to Recruit-Proof Your Child”; Caleb Lee Brundidge, a self-described former gay man who leads “healing seminars”; and Don Schmierer, a board member of Exodus International, whose mission is “mobilizing the body of Christ to minister grace and truth to a world impacted by homosexuality” — are now trying to distance themselves from the bill. “I feel duped,” Mr. … [Read more...]
Rachel Maddow, Uganda & Me – Guest Post By Don Schmierer

Rachel Maddow, Uganda & Me - By: Don Schmierer Never in a million years did I expect to see my face on MSNBC. But there I was, plain as day - white hair, tanned wrinkles, looking every bit the grandfather I am- in a photo posted on Rachel Maddow's show last night. Unbeknownst to me, she had decided to discuss a conference I spoke at in Uganda several months ago. As Ms. Maddow accurately recounted, I did go to Uganda last spring to speak at a conference about my book, An Ounce of Prevention: Preventing the Homosexual Condition in Today's Youth. In fact, I've been to Uganda many times … [Read more...]
Charisma News Online Picks Up Uganda Story

and quotes yours truly ... A prominent ex-gay ministry is speaking out against a proposed law in Uganda that could criminalize anyone involved in same-sex sexual relationships and anyone knowledgeable of those affairs. Exodus International leaders said the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009, introduced into the Ugandan Parliament on Oct. 14 to affirm traditional family values, discriminates against people with same-sex attraction. "Overall the bill's intent is to silence, intimidate and oppress people who have same sex attraction," said Randy Thomas, executive vice president of Exodus … [Read more...]
In Sexuality Struggles, Hold on to Biblical Truths

In sexuality struggles, hold on to biblical truths (published in the Orlando Sentinel November 1, 2009) It is troubling to watch more denominations and Christian leaders so easily turn away from biblical truths and principles. In recent months, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America voted to allow congregations to hire clergy involved in same-sex relationships, and now we are seeing the National Episcopal Church heading in that same direction ("SC Episcopal diocese to distance itself from national church over gay unions, other issues," OrlandoSentinel.com, Oct. 24). It is … [Read more...]
Stunning Shut Down of Major Gay Print Media

I saw this yesterday and have been watching it unfold but there has been little detail given. Window Media closed all of its publications yesterday. Most notably, the Washington Blade. I have been told that Washington Blade was the largest gay newspaper in the country and just recently celebrated its 40th anniversary. Here is a list of the four largest of the seven gay print outlets closed down: Washington Blade Southern Voice (Atlanta) South Florida Blade Houston Voice Over the years I have interviewed with and read many articles by the Washington Blade and I think once or … [Read more...]
Worship Leader Danen Kane Experiences God’s Grace at Exodus

Serving over the Exodus Events Department, one of my greatest joys is hearing feedback from conference guests who experience an Exodus conference for the first time. Recently, the North Central Regional ministries held their annual conference in Green Lake, WI. They invited musical artist, Danen Kane to join them as their worship leader at this year’s conference. Danen shares his experience at this Exodus Event on his blog …. Last weekend I lead worship for a conference in Wisconsin. The Conference was for a ministry called Exodus International. I really didn’t know a ton about … [Read more...]
Of Picket Lines, Politics and People

Charisma Magazine published an article I wrote called Of Picket Lines, Politics and People: An e-mail from an old college friend got me thinking. She had reconnected with a high school classmate on FaceBook and her friend, a passionate, self-proclaimed gay rights advocate, was constantly posting statements and articles on the subject for all to see. My friend, knowing that I work with a ministry that helps those dealing with unwanted same-sex attraction, asked, "How, in your opinion, do you even begin to talk to someone like this? Obviously she doesn't have the same worldview ... so what … [Read more...]
MST Project – Ministry to Those Involved With Sex Trafficking in Thailand

Hello friends. This is Alan and I have asked my friend, Christian Lenty, to share about his ministry seeking to combat the sex trafficking in Thailand with the compassion and love of Christ. It is Sunday morning and I look out at the crowd before me knowing that some may like what I am about to ask, and some may not. I begin with the first question - "How many of you here would say that the issue of human trafficking interests you?” and I notice that half the hands go up. I ask the second question - “How many here would say that you care for, support and would want to help women who are … [Read more...]
Love Won Out Birmingham to Be Protested – Opportunity for More Prayer
From CitizenLink: Metro Church of God in Birmingham, Ala., will host the Love Won Out Conference on Nov. 7. It's the last Love Won Out event for Focus on the Family, which will turn the conference over to Exodus International in December. Gay activists are planning to protest. Wayne Besen, founder of Truth Wins Out, claimed the sessions teach parents to "hate" their children. "Love Won Out tells young people and their families that they aren't whole and that they should and can change – which isn't true," he said. But Joe Dallas, pastoral counselor, founder of Genesis Counseling in … [Read more...]
