Inaccuracy Shrouds Kirsten Power’s Article

Click Image to Read Kirsten's Article

The following was submitted to USA Today as a Letter to the Editor last week in response to Kirsten Powers article "Hypocrisy shrouds the gay marriage debate."  The letter has not been published in their paper as of yet. --- Inaccuracy Shrouds Kirsten Power’s Article As the Director of “Day of Truth 2010”, I am disappointed with the inaccurate perspective of Kirsten Power’s article. Voicing disapproval of homosexuality was not the focus of this event but rather exercising the right to present an alternative message and educating individuals about their choices. For these … [Read more...]

Brief Media Round-Up Concerning Day Of Truth Announcement

Day-of-Truth

I knew when Alan made the announcement that Exodus was giving up participation in the Day of Truth campaign that it would cause a bit of a stir.  I didn't expect it to cause such an enormous amount of feedback! The blogosphere lit up and emails, Facebook private messages, phone calls started coming in.  There were quite a number of media outlets that picked up the story as well. A vast majority of the feedback was exuberant agreement with the decision. However, there were a few who didn't like the decision.  Some of those who disagreed were very thoughtful about their disagreement and … [Read more...]

Exodus International Releases Control of Day of Truth Back to friend Alliance Defense Fund

Day-of-Truth

Exodus International Releases Control of Day of Truth Back to friend Alliance Defense Fund After 4 years of supporting the Day of Truth initiative and 1 year of spearheading the effort, Exodus International is returning the event to the Alliance Defense Fund.  ADF will likely find another group to run the event or end it altogether.  Created in 2005 by the Alliance Defense Fund as a response to the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network's (GLSEN) annual Day of Silence, Day of Truth was an effort aimed at encouraging conservatively-minded teenagers to respectfully engage fellow students … [Read more...]

CNN Belief Blog Interviews Alan Chambers About Prop 8 and Gay Rights

From ‘Ex-gay’ ministry on gay marriage's chances after Prop 8 ruling ... “It’s disappointing that a judge would rule against the will of the people,” says Chambers, author of Leaving Homosexuality. “That’s the greatest tragedy.” For 34 years, Exodus has told gay and lesbians that they can be “delivered” from homosexuality through faith in Christ, professional counseling and support groups. But how will groups like Exodus fare if fewer Americans believe that homosexuality is a sin, and if gay marriage becomes an option? Chambers acknowledged that “our culture is … [Read more...]

What Is The Gospel Response to Prop. 8? – Christianity Today Quotes Alan Chambers

prop-8

From What Is The Gospel Response to Prop. 8? : Alan Chambers, president of Exodus International: I believe that God is calling his church to a place far above the arguments surrounding what is sin and what isn't. We cannot avoid the glaring scriptural truth that there is, and will always be, a right way and a wrong way concerning just about everything we can imagine. And, yet, I believe that our attitudes towards people (internal and external) are just as important as our positions on the issues at hand. So, when I first saw the news that Prop. 8 had been overturned, my very first thought … [Read more...]

Reflections On The Exodus Freedom Conference

Joe Dallas - Freedom Conference 2010/LWO "Moving Forward"

Thom Hunter has a very inspiring post concerning his experience at the Exodus Freedom Conference a couple of weeks ago.  Here is an excerpt from his blog post (linkage mine.): I wish every pastor in the country -- make that the world -- could hear Joe Dallas explain the differences between homosexual orientation . . . identity . . . and behavior.  Orientation being involuntary, discovered.  Behavior being what we do with that discovery via our free will.  Identity sometimes foisted on us, sometimes embraced, but not who we really are.  Not in God's created intent, but only in our fallen … [Read more...]

Charisma, California Catholic Daily and CitizenLink Cover Exodus Freedom Conference

Pastor Clark Whitten Talks With Exodus Leaders about Grace

Today we are featured in Charisma Magazine, California Catholic Daily and CitizenLink.  Also, I haven't found the link of a television interview Jeff Buchanan did with CBN (Christian Broadcasting Network.) We also have some other major media in the works and if that all works out I will post those links when they come up. Here is the first round-up of media mentions: First from Charisma Exodus International Marks 35th Year of Freedom Conferences Around 1,000 people are expected to participate in the International Freedom Conference, which begins Wednesday and includes workshops and … [Read more...]

About John Paulk – A Brief Response To Rev. Cheng On The Huffington Post

light in darkness

I read a blog post the other day by a Rev. Patrick Cheng PhD, for The Huffington Post. He basically said that ex-gays were going to hell and really, really deserved it. I never tell anyone they are going to hell. It wasn't the fear of hell that saved me. It was the kindness, mercy and love of God that led me to repentance. In the years I spent as a gay-identified man I didn't appreciate Christians telling me to "flip or fry." Today as an ex-gay man I still don't appreciate being told I deserve hell especially by a theologian who is selective about his tolerance, not to mention his … [Read more...]

Gay Rights and Religious Liberties

kaminer

I just got this article via email and I appreciated the unique perspective offered within. The author, Wendy Kaminer, definitely has a bias against the idea that professional counseling is very helpful for those who seek it in overcoming unwanted homosexuality.  That said, I appreciate that her bias is clearly stated and yet she is professional and objective to a large extent.  Here is the first paragraph from Gay Rights and Anti-Gay Liberties: An openly gay student seeking a graduate degree in counseling at a state university is expelled for refusing to agree that homosexuality is … [Read more...]
