From The Guardian: Nearly three-quarters of a million adults in Britain say they are gay or bisexual, according to figures published for the first time today by the Office of National Statistics. The findings, based on interviews with more than 450,000 people – the biggest pool of social data after the census – show that an estimated 481,000 people regard themselves as gay and a further 245,000 – mainly women – say they are bisexual. The estimate puts Britain's gay community at 1.5% of the total population – much lower than the most commonly used estimate of 5% to 7%, which … [Read more...]

Porn “Hijacks” The Male Brain Wired for Sexual Intimacy

wired for intimacy

Albert Mohler highlights the new book by William Struthers Wired for Intimacy: How Pornography Hijacks the Male Brain: To no one's surprise, the vast majority of those who consume pornography are males. It is no trade secret that males are highly stimulated by visual images, whether still or video. That is not a new development, as ancient forms of pornography attest. What is new is all about access. Today's men and boys are not looking at line pictures drawn on cave walls. They have almost instant access to countless forms of pornography in a myriad of forms. But, even as … [Read more...]

Of Gym Owners, Soy Milk and Causation

soy milk

I am not a scientist, or the son of one, but I don't think it takes a scientist to know that making the assertion that soy milk causes kids to be gay is ... ridiculous not accurate. As the following gym owner finds out, it is something that definitely should not be quoted/promoted if you haven't "...put enough thought into it." There are plenty of other topics concerning the complex nature of sexuality and sexual identity to talk about but in reality, how important is it an issue to bring up in a gym newsletter? From Gym apologises over 'soy makes kids gay' article: An Auckland gym … [Read more...]

The Advocate’s 15 “Gayest” Cities

gay city graphic

The Advocate uses their influence as the largest gay magazine to publish a list of 15 Gayest Cities in America list is surprising. Mike Albo introduces the list (emphasis mine): Intrepid amateur sociologist Mike Albo searches for America’s 15 gayest burgs—based on a finely tuned (if totally arbitrary) calculus. Long ago, gay people settled in our nation’s largest cities. There they spruced up all the property, created every art and fashion movement, and taught entire populations how to dance. They created gayborhoods like WeHo, Chelsea, South Beach—and pretty much queered all of San … [Read more...]

Study Shows Ex-gay Ministry Success Rate – LTE by Kirk Chambers

Kirk Chambers

Our newest employee, Kirk Chambers had "Letter To The Editor" pubished in the Florida Baptist Witness. Study shows ex-gay ministry has 53 percent success rate When the American Psychological Association (APA) makes a blanket statement that says change is not possible (“Study shows ex-gay ministry has a 53 percent success rate,” August 27, 2009), they fail to consider two things: personal testimonies and reliable research. It is a shame that Jones and Yarhouse’s six year study was not taken seriously when the APA was creating their new resolution concerning the possibilities of sexual … [Read more...]

No Straight Shot – Christianity Today

Christianity Today

There was an interesting article posted on Christianity Today titled "No Straight Shot."  From the article: ... At the APA's annual convention in Toronto, where the resolution passed, psychologists Stanton Jones of Wheaton College and Mark Yarhouse of Regent University presented findings from a six-year study of people who went through gay-change programs. Their research found that more than half of the 61 subjects either converted to heterosexuality or "dis-identified" with homosexuality and embraced chastity. Yarhouse says more Christian psychologists are providing sexual identity … [Read more...]

Ex-Gays?

Who would’ve … [Read more...]

Turn Signal – Kim Trobe Interviews Dr. Stanton Jones on APA & "Ex-Gay" Study

Kim Trobe interviews Dr. Stanton Jones and features Dr. Frank Farley (former APA President) calling for the APA to recognize that some people can and do "change."  I thought the video was very good and I personally appreciated both Jones and Farley, who come from completely different worlds when it comes to spirituality and faith (Farley does not ascribe to any faith.) … [Read more...]

Boundless Line addresses “Once Gay, Always Gay?” and The APA

The Line

Our Friends at Boundless, specificially Matt Kaufman, writes about the American Psychological Association (APA) report and the Jones & Yarhouse report: The APA has been moving for years against "reparative therapists" and others who help people wanting to come out of homosexuality. The task force that pushed this declaration is dominated by gay activists, and adopted the premise that homosexual "orientations" per se are "normal and positive variants of human sexuality." If anything, the APA's actions could have been worse. They stopped short of labeling reparative therapists unethical, … [Read more...]
