New Tactics to Disenfranchise Counselors and Clients with a Biblical Worldview

man-in-chair

Back in May we posted about how California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) was trying to make the practice of "Reparative Therapy" or any sexually oriented change counseling unethical.  Thank goodness that effort, while not completely gone, failed. ... Clearly, the current CAMFT board is not at all ready to pass judgment on the ethical standards of ANY therapeutic orientation. I believe the board began to recognize the danger of putting CAMFT in the position of going way beyond what even the APA (American Psychological Association) has stated concerning SOCE. The APA … [Read more...]

The Jesus Movement and Joe Dallas – Testimony

Joe Dallas is featured in an extended version of his testimony on Godreports.com.  Here is an excerpt from Jesus Movement prodigal slid into homosexual sin, but God’s love drew him out (parenthesis mine): As Paul’s letter to the Corinthians says, “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” By some measures, Dallas’ quality of life was high during this period (of living with a male partner.) He held a good job, led an active social life, and lived in a comfortable apartment. “The circumstances of my life seemed … [Read more...]

God’s Grace for George Rekers and Jo-Vanni Roman

Grace

It is being reported widely throughout the media that Dr. George Rekers, husband, father, NARTH Board Member, scholar, theologian and Baptist minister (to name just a few of the highlights), confirmed that he hired a 20 year-old man to accompany him on a 10-day European mission trip and extended vacation. As it turns out, that young man happens to be a prostitute. And while there has been no allegation of sexual misconduct, Dr. Rekers actions, at best, lacked an enormous amount of discernment. At worst, he is guilty of leading a double life. Despite the familiar human desire to throw the … [Read more...]

Study Shows Ex-gay Ministry Success Rate – LTE by Kirk Chambers

Kirk Chambers

Our newest employee, Kirk Chambers had "Letter To The Editor" pubished in the Florida Baptist Witness. Study shows ex-gay ministry has 53 percent success rate When the American Psychological Association (APA) makes a blanket statement that says change is not possible (“Study shows ex-gay ministry has a 53 percent success rate,” August 27, 2009), they fail to consider two things: personal testimonies and reliable research. It is a shame that Jones and Yarhouse’s six year study was not taken seriously when the APA was creating their new resolution concerning the possibilities of sexual … [Read more...]

No Straight Shot – Christianity Today

Christianity Today

There was an interesting article posted on Christianity Today titled "No Straight Shot."  From the article: ... At the APA's annual convention in Toronto, where the resolution passed, psychologists Stanton Jones of Wheaton College and Mark Yarhouse of Regent University presented findings from a six-year study of people who went through gay-change programs. Their research found that more than half of the 61 subjects either converted to heterosexuality or "dis-identified" with homosexuality and embraced chastity. Yarhouse says more Christian psychologists are providing sexual identity … [Read more...]

Turn Signal – Kim Trobe Interviews Dr. Stanton Jones on APA & "Ex-Gay" Study

Kim Trobe interviews Dr. Stanton Jones and features Dr. Frank Farley (former APA President) calling for the APA to recognize that some people can and do "change."  I thought the video was very good and I personally appreciated both Jones and Farley, who come from completely different worlds when it comes to spirituality and faith (Farley does not ascribe to any faith.) … [Read more...]

Boundless Line addresses “Once Gay, Always Gay?” and The APA

The Line

Our Friends at Boundless, specificially Matt Kaufman, writes about the American Psychological Association (APA) report and the Jones & Yarhouse report: The APA has been moving for years against "reparative therapists" and others who help people wanting to come out of homosexuality. The task force that pushed this declaration is dominated by gay activists, and adopted the premise that homosexual "orientations" per se are "normal and positive variants of human sexuality." If anything, the APA's actions could have been worse. They stopped short of labeling reparative therapists unethical, … [Read more...]

Dr. Stanton Jones and Yours Truly on Chris Fabry Live – Audio File Link

Stanton Jones

Yesterday, I had the honor of appearing with Dr. Jones on the popular Chris Fabry Live radio program (Moody Radio) concerning "Therapy and Sexual Orientation Change." Chris is a fantastic interviewer. This is the second time I have been on his show and I have appreciated his gifts at covering the important points and facilitating good conversation.  I am so glad that Dr. Jones was on the radio program too. Not only is the man smart, he is very compassionate, intelligent and honest.  Check out his bio: Stanton Jones Dr. Stanton L. Jones is Provost and Professor of Psychology at Wheaton … [Read more...]

A New Therapy on Faith and Sexual Identity – WSJ.com

Very intriguing article in the Wall Street Journal: ... in a striking departure, the American Psychological Association said Wednesday that it is ethical -- and can be beneficial -- for counselors to help some clients reject gay or lesbian attractions. The APA is the largest association of psychologists world-wide, with 150,000 members. The association plans to promote the new approach to sexuality with YouTube videos, speeches to schools and churches, and presentations to Christian counselors. … [Read more...]
