“Consider it Pure Joy …” – Letter From Alan Chambers for October 2010

This letter from Alan Chambers appears in both our offline and online newsletters.  To receive this letter along with the full newsletter online via email or offline through the postal service please sign up here. --- Today I was meditating on James 1.  The whole chapter is rich, but several verses leapt out at me, due to my recent attendance at the funerals of two of Exodus International's most valued women leaders.  James 1:2-4, 12: Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. … [Read more...]

Masturbation: Is it Sin?

78814753a

*Posted originally at Exodus Youth. About seven years ago I attended my first Exodus conference.  As I was looking at the multitude of workshops offered during the week I came across one entitled "Something, something...MASTURBATION".  I can't remember the whole title, because I just saw that "m" word.  I knew I had to go to that one.  But of course when the time came to go I was filled with so much trepidation and shame.  Would I be the only one in the workshop?  I got up enough courage to go, and to my amazement, the room was so full, there was barely any standing room.  It … [Read more...]

Are You Happier Now Than When You Were Gay?

You Just Never Know What Could Happen Now Do You?

One of my young(er) friends on Facebook sent me a message that I have been getting a lot lately.  Now that I have passed the 40 year old mark by two years the youngin's ask me "lonely old man" questions a lot.  They don't say it like that and I am being humorous in phrasing it that way but it's true, I am getting older and have been celibate for 18 years this coming July 23rd. So they want to know if you can be happy, older and not pursuing or in a gay relationship.  Wade (not his real name) writes in part: Are you happy? I know your probably thinking 'weirdo', but I'm not. Basically … [Read more...]

Opening Night Encouragement – Exodus Freedom Conference “Moving Forward” (Video)

IMG_0952

I shot this video earlier this evening.  It contains some encouragement from a few friends. Also, Alan did a fantastic job sharing about the founding of Exodus and honoring all of those involved in that process.  He also shared very openly and authentically about his walk and life and the importance of God being our sole focus and the church coming alongside those who struggle with homosexuality. Very powerful. *** Don't forget, you can follow live updates, pictures and videos on our Facebook Page. … [Read more...]

Divine Appointments At The Exodus Conference – Nathan’s Experience

sessions-280x80

Regular readers might remember Nathan's guest follow up post about Jennifer Knapp titled True Repentance Always Comes With Provision To Live It Out. Last night he sent me another post that I thought would be an encouragement today. Parts of it are really funny too  (Emphasis Nathan ... linkage mine.) *** Still debating whether to attend the Exodus Freedom Conference next week? My advice is to go. If my past experience at three previous conferences holds true for this conference, God has some divine appointments He wants me—and you—to keep. I remember my first conference in … [Read more...]

The Jesus Movement and Joe Dallas – Testimony

Joe Dallas is featured in an extended version of his testimony on Godreports.com.  Here is an excerpt from Jesus Movement prodigal slid into homosexual sin, but God’s love drew him out (parenthesis mine): As Paul’s letter to the Corinthians says, “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” By some measures, Dallas’ quality of life was high during this period (of living with a male partner.) He held a good job, led an active social life, and lived in a comfortable apartment. “The circumstances of my life seemed … [Read more...]

Of Elton And Rush – We Don’t Have to Care But We Might Choose To Do So Anyway

EJRL Poll

I am not exaggerating, when I heard that some of the gay or pro-gay community are furious with Elton John for performing at Rush Limbaugh's wedding, I was shocked.  I thought they would be excited that the highest profile conservative in America would invite one of the world's highest profile gay men to sing at his wedding. The disparity of what I would expect between their reaction led me, on a whim, to conduct a poll on my personal blog.  I put it there and not here because I wasn't sure where and if I was even going to blog about this.  As I got public and private feedback, plus a … [Read more...]
