Is Religious Freedom and Self-Determination in Professional Counseling in Danger?

horizon

Of our two hundred and forty Member Agencies out there, around 40 of them are professional counselors.  Over the past year or so we have had a great increase in the number of reports coming in threatening counselors who are willing to help people with unwanted homosexuality.  Lately, Californian therapists are being threatened. SAN DIEGO, California, May 3, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - California's pro-family therapists are striving to persuade the state's largest therapist association to stand firm against demands to suppress or kick out members who seek to help clients with unwanted … [Read more...]

Disney Makes Right Decision Concerning “Ex-Gay” Policy

disney

Over the past year, PFOX worked within Disney circles to force a vote by shareholders to include "ex-gays" as a part of the Disney corporate non-discrimination policy.  Disney rejected the measure in terms that would make "landslide" seem a vast understatement (by 98%.) As stated before here and here, I don't think trying to adding another layer of identity politics to the culture war is a good idea. The language PFOX uses is confusing. It appears they are doing a "find and replace" word processing function on their organizational messaging.  They are copying gay activist talking … [Read more...]

My true identity-2

The The Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission (Southern Baptist) has highlighted the testimony of Richard Holloman. Richard is the Director of The Sight Ministry in Nashville Tennessee and is also the Exodus Regional Coordinator for the Southern Gulf region.  He's a good man, and friend, who loves the Lord. Richard has a powerful testimony. Here's an excerpt: The most important thing the Lord continues to teach me through my recovery process is that authentic Christian faith is not about law, works, flesh or self-effort but about having a personal love relationship with God. Calgary Church Loses Charity Status

religious liberty-1

From LifeSiteNews.com: CALGARY, Alberta, January 21, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has revoked the charitable status of Kings Glory Fellowship (KGF), a Christian church in Calgary. CRA cites a number of issues with KGF's application, but the decision is based, in part, on the ground that certain KGF Board members have spoken out strongly against abortion, and other moral issues. "The members of the Board of Directors espouse strong negative views about sensitive and controversial issues, which may also be viewed as political, such as abortion, homosexuality, … [Read more...]

The Manhattan Declaration on Marriage

Manhattan Declaration

Last week 152 Orthodox, Catholic and Evangelical leaders issued the Manhattan Declaration that makes a commitment to speak to issues of Life, Marriage and Religious Liberty (link to file download at the end of the post.)  The authors did a very good job of explaining their positions and intentions within the manifesto. For the purposes of this post I am quoting the section on marriage. I am interested in your feedback.  That said, the bolded emphasis in parts of this quote are mine to highlight what stood out to me. Sidenote: As far as I know, Alan Chambers wasn't aware of the … [Read more...]

Pastor Taken Off YouTube For Message Against Homosexuality

Pastor Taken Off YouTube

Guest Post by McKrae Game of Truth Ministry: Pastor Taken Off YouTube For Message Against Homosexuality What will hate crimes mean to the church? By McKrae Game Dr. David Manning recently had a video of a sermon he preached on homosexuality pulled off of YouTube. According to Manning*, YouTube cited the recently signed Hate Crimes legislation as their reason for pulling the sermon; they had always allowed his previous sermons. I did not see the pastor’s original sermon; however his video explaining his outrage at the situation was very strongly worded and full of … [Read more...]

Hate Crimes Sent To Obama’s Desk – What’s Top Priority?

hatecrime

It is true that Exodus is not focusing on public policy as a primary goal right now but this is a historic move and deserves attention and prayer. What follows is my own personal opinion.  From the definitely "right" (politically) leaning OneNewsNow.com : Christians on high alert over hate crimes passage A hate crimes bill sent to President Obama for his signature raises a red flag for Christians. On Thursday, the U.S. Senate passed a hate crimes bill that Christian leaders have warned for years could greatly infringe on the rights of those who speak to loudly about their religious … [Read more...]

Religious Liberty and Artistic Integrity on One Life to Live is Punished Over Gay Storyline

Patricia Mauceri

This is kind of amazing.  From Fox News: Mauceri played the recurring role of Carlotta Vega on "OLTL" for the last 14 years. But when she objected to how the writers wanted her deeply religious character, a Latina mother, to handle a storyline involving homosexuality, she objected. And for that she claims she was fired. Mauceri, 59, a devout Christian, told FOX News that character Vega's gay-friendly dialogue was not in line with the character she helped create by drawing on her own faith. "I did not object to being in a gay storyline. I objected to speaking the truth of what that … [Read more...]
