Go Ahead, Get Off Your Perch

This post is actually inspired by a private conversation I am having with someone who has rejected Christ.  It involves the false standard that some people believe concerning Christians should be "better" than other people. It should be stated that I have known this person for over 20 years and I love them dearly.  We have a very free and open friendship in that in spite of our deep disagreements we do love each other unconditionally. --- I have been a Christian for 18 years now but I noticed as a young believer that my non-Christian friends had an easier time talking about … [Read more...]

Difficulty Can Lead to Clarity of Vision and Inspiration – Letter from Alan Chambers for September 2010

Alan-Chambers

This letter from Alan Chambers appears in both our offline and online newsletters.  To receive this letter along with the full newsletter online via email or offline through the postal service please sign up here. --- Dear Friends, I often forget when seasons of desperation begin how beneficial they can be, when I give them over to God and ask Him to guide me through them. When these seasons start I usually try to employ my own gifts and talents to manage the turbulence. Then if that doesn’t work I begin to panic, spending hours thinking about what else “I” can do to get … [Read more...]

Are You Happier Now Than When You Were Gay?

You Just Never Know What Could Happen Now Do You?

One of my young(er) friends on Facebook sent me a message that I have been getting a lot lately.  Now that I have passed the 40 year old mark by two years the youngin's ask me "lonely old man" questions a lot.  They don't say it like that and I am being humorous in phrasing it that way but it's true, I am getting older and have been celibate for 18 years this coming July 23rd. So they want to know if you can be happy, older and not pursuing or in a gay relationship.  Wade (not his real name) writes in part: Are you happy? I know your probably thinking 'weirdo', but I'm not. Basically … [Read more...]

The Jesus Movement and Joe Dallas – Testimony

Joe Dallas is featured in an extended version of his testimony on Godreports.com.  Here is an excerpt from Jesus Movement prodigal slid into homosexual sin, but God’s love drew him out (parenthesis mine): As Paul’s letter to the Corinthians says, “We have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” By some measures, Dallas’ quality of life was high during this period (of living with a male partner.) He held a good job, led an active social life, and lived in a comfortable apartment. “The circumstances of my life seemed … [Read more...]

Responding to Bradlee Dean’s Condemning Comments – UPDATED

p_280_229_502270B3-B174-4F26-833E-E07064982015.jpeg

I was alerted to Dr. Warren Throckmorton's post about Bradlee Dean's (pictured) public comments saying that Muslim countries who call for homosexuals to be killed are more "moral" than American Christians. I listened to the segment of Mr. Dean's radio program and was shocked. You will be too if you decide to listen: UPDATE: Audio added June 2, 2009. We called our contacts in Minnesota and apparently Mr. Dean is somewhat known in Christian circles there. They have run into him a couple of times but have not appreciated his strident tone. They were as upset by his statements as we are. … [Read more...]

Ignore Homosexuality For “God’s Sake” … Really?

Albert Mohler lends his great intellect to making complex issues approachable. He has done so again regarding the recent ordination of Mary Glasspool as a Bishop in the Episcopal church.  Ms. Glasspool has openly embraced lesbianism and makes the second gay Bishop in the denomination and first lesbian identified Bishop.  Here is the introduction and conclusion of Mr. Mohler's very interesting blog post (of which you should read the whole thing): The ordination of Mary Glasspool as a bishop of the Episcopal Church on Sunday drives yet another wedge into the already fracturing Anglican … [Read more...]

Dutch Gays Protest Church Communion Refusal

Catholic Church refuses communion to people who openly identify as gay: Pink wafers and wigs were the fashion Sunday as hundreds of Dutch activists in the city of 's-Hertogenbosch walked out of mass in protest of the Catholic Church policy of denying communion to gay people. According to the BBC, the dispute began last month when a priest in the nearby town of Reusel refused communion to an openly gay man who happened to be chosen prince for carnival celebrations. ... via Dutch Gays Protest Church Communion Refusal | News | Advocate.com. The Gospel And Elton John

elton john

I've seen many gay protesters over the years hold up signs that say, "What Jesus said about homosexuality is _______." Thus inferring that He never said anything about being gay.  Not all, but a few of those same folks who seem to want to make facts out of thin air (arguing from silence in a negative sense) would probably believe, like Elton John, that Jesus was gay Himself.  From Parade.com: "I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems. On the cross, he forgave the people who crucified him. Jesus wanted us to be loving and forgiving. I don't … [Read more...]

Unapologetic About Prayer

Exodus is a Christian faith based organization.  We do believe in a Living God who has His own opinions and will for our lives.  We do believe that being in communication with Him is essential.  It is essential to not only find and experience freedom in one area of life ... our Communion with God is essential for all aspects of life.  Engaging in dialog with a living God is why we call him Lord, Savior and Abba (our Father.) Here is our doctrinal statement (emphasis mine for the purpose of this post): Doctrinal Statement We believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the … [Read more...]

Relational Investments Render Earthly Consequences – A Look at Lisa Miller

Lisa and Isabella

Back in 1997-1998 I was complaining to some Exodus leaders about their involvement in public policy. They were very kind and heard me out.  But one of them said to me, "Randy, do you know how many times I have defended the gay community in the meetings I go to in Washington DC?" I looked shocked and haltingly answered, " ... uh ... no." Then he asked, "Do you know how many bad ideas we have shot down, or tried to prevent, because of how awful and stigmatizing they would be to the gay community and ourselves?" I hated to admit it but I hadn't even thought they would be there for that … [Read more...]
