Follow Up Reactions To Tyler Clementi and the “September Suicides”

Warren Throckmorton writes on the CNN Belief Blog: As a traditional evangelical, I may have some differences of opinion with my gay friends. However, such ideological differences don’t matter to a middle school child who is afraid to go to school. Agreed. Family Research Council links to my post on Tyler Clementi: Bullying Is Hate; Truth Is Love In recent weeks there have been several suicides of teenagers who either said they were, or were believed to be, homosexuals. The intense media coverage of these events has led some people to lay the blame for these tragedies not on the … [Read more...]

Statement from Alan Chambers, President of Exodus International on the Criminalization of Homosexuality, 2009 Uganda Conference and Beyond

Uganda

Criticism is easy to come by at Exodus.  We are a large and diverse organization made up of many members.  Our growth over the years has caused us to not always know what the hand or foot are doing, which sometimes causes us to look like we are “all butt”.  That’s humanity for you, even Christian humanity. That said, and without a wordy explanation or excuse, this public post is way overdue and I sincerely hope it clears up any speculation about how I really feel about gay and lesbian people, Ugandan or otherwise, the criminalization of homosexuality, Exodus’s connection to the … [Read more...]

Responding to Bradlee Dean’s Condemning Comments – UPDATED

p_280_229_502270B3-B174-4F26-833E-E07064982015.jpeg

I was alerted to Dr. Warren Throckmorton's post about Bradlee Dean's (pictured) public comments saying that Muslim countries who call for homosexuals to be killed are more "moral" than American Christians. I listened to the segment of Mr. Dean's radio program and was shocked. You will be too if you decide to listen: UPDATE: Audio added June 2, 2009. We called our contacts in Minnesota and apparently Mr. Dean is somewhat known in Christian circles there. They have run into him a couple of times but have not appreciated his strident tone. They were as upset by his statements as we are. … [Read more...]

Baptist Press Covers Exodus Response to Ugandan NASWU Statement

Uganda

From Baptist Press: "NASWU rejects the view that same-sex attraction is an innate 'orientation,' rather it is part of a range of feelings individuals ought to learn to bring under control as they mature," the social workers said. "There is justification for Uganda to put in place appropriate legislation to comprehensively prohibit homosexuality." But the group said the bill contains drafting errors that should be corrected before its passage. Specifically, the clause requiring mandatory reporting of all known homosexual offenses should be amended to exempt disclosure made in counseling … [Read more...]

LaBarbera v. Throckmorton: Is Affirming “Gay” People Biblical?

Warren-1

I have been watching Peter Labarbera declare a blog battle with Warren Throckmorton. He calls on his readers to complain about Warren to his employer Grove City College for not practicing what Peter considers a biblical view of how to counsel people who have same sex attractions. It's gotten really heated on Peter's side of the issue (calling in reinforcements and everything) but I am sure both bloggers don't mind the web traffic. What blogger would mind web traffic? I asked Warren a couple of questions about Peter's posts and here is the dialog (printed with permission): How much of … [Read more...]

Day of Truth = Opportunity, Not Rhetoric

Numerous organizations are gearing up to do battle over the platform in which to influence your children. The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is sponsoring the Day of Silence, which according to its website brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Each year the event has grown, now with hundreds of thousands of students coming together to encourage schools and classmates to address the problem of anti-LGBT behavior. If that was all they did I wouldn't have a problem with promoting it. None whatsoever. Why? Kids do get harassed and … [Read more...]

Soulforce Agrees With Exodus About Uganda

Soulforce, a gay activist group, describe themselves as: ... guided by the spirit of truth and empowered by the principles of relentless nonviolent resistance, works to end the religious and political oppression of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning people. They haven't been our biggest fans, by far, over the years. Yet, in an Open Letter to Jan and Paul Crouch (TBN) by Soulforce Founder Mel White, on February 5th,  stated: It isn’t just the “liberal media” who are condemning the bill. In mid-November, Exodus International, the ministry that promises to … [Read more...]

President Obama & Secretary Clinton Speak Out Against “Odious” Ugandan Bill

Thank you Mr. President and Secretary of State Clinton. Of course I don't agree with them on a whole lot concerning issues surrounding homosexuality but it is nice to be able to agree with them about this. New York Times Picks Up Uganda Story

The New York Times quotes Exodus Board Member Don Schmierer: The three Americans who spoke at the conference — Scott Lively, a missionary who has written several books against homosexuality, including “7 Steps to Recruit-Proof Your Child”; Caleb Lee Brundidge, a self-described former gay man who leads “healing seminars”; and Don Schmierer, a board member of Exodus International, whose mission is “mobilizing the body of Christ to minister grace and truth to a world impacted by homosexuality” — are now trying to distance themselves from the bill. “I feel duped,” Mr. … [Read more...]

Rick Warren Graciously and Strongly Denounces Uganda Anti-Homosexuality Bill

Rick On Uganda

Warren Throckmorton passed on this information and I *love* Pastor Rick Warren's response. Throckmorton has a transcript of the video and responses by Pastor Rick to a list of direct questions. Again, I think this response is very loving, gracious, respectful and strong. Fantastic. Everyone, please keep praying and speaking up for Uganda!
